I feel that all computer scientists have a responsibility to see that people are encouraged to study the field, particularly women. With more people studying computer science diversity increases. My wife had little interest in computer science, but decided to study it to improve her job performance. She had fun studying and learned a useful skill. Most importantly due to her different perspective, when confronted with a programming problem she often comes up with a unique solution. We need this diversity to bring new ideas and improvements to the field. There are many great resources out there that make it fun and easy to share computer science. One such resource is The Hour of Code, where computer scientists go to elementary schools and help kids learn how to program. It is a fun experience and helps introduce children to computer science. There are many other way to help encourage diversity, but most importantly we, as computer scientists, should use or create opportunities to encourage others to study computer science.
